Healthier Black Rockfish
A study examined how feeding juvenile Black Rockfish with Yacon by-products affects their growth. Yacon is a common South American plant, and Black Rockfish is a common marine fish in East Asian waters.
The experiment tested four feeding schedules over 8 weeks: a continuous standard diet, daily Yacon by-product feeding, feeding every other day, and feeding every third day.
Results showed no notable differences in survival rates among the groups. However, some groups had significantly better weight gain, growth rates and feed efficiency. The study recommends feeding Yacon by-products every other day as the best approach, as it improves growth, digestion, antioxidant capacity, and disease resistance while being cost-effective for juvenile Black Rockfish aquaculture.
